The First International Conference “Islam in a Modern Secular State” was held in September 28-29, 2017 in Bishkek under the auspices of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Within the framework of the conference the place and role of Islam in modern secular states and issues of deepening international cooperation in regulating processes in the religious sphere and countering extremism were discussed. As a result of the Conference the “Bishkek Declaration on the Role of Islam in Modern Secular States” was adopted, which contributes to the development of recommendations on improving the interstate dialogue and interaction in the religious sphere.
