Mayor of the city of Vilvoorde
Studied Political & Social Sciences at the University of Ghent and Public Administration at the Free University of Brussels. Before entering the House of Representatives in 1995, he was working as a labor and social security expert for the Research Institute SEVI.
Legislation he now tried to change and improve as a Member of Parliament. When the Belgian air company SABENA went bankrupt, he was closely involved as vice-president of the parliamentary commission who was established to investigate the demise of the airline. In 2007, Hans became president of the Public Centre for Social Welfare and Alderman of Social Affairs in the city of Vilvoorde. He took some remarkable initiatives on the matter of social economy, the aging of the population, community work and pensioner’s policy. As president of the Public Centre for Social Welfare he opposed the way Citibank granted credit.
In 2013 Hans becomes the first social-democratic mayor of the city of Vilvoorde in thirty years. A couple of months later he gets confronted with the problem of Foreign Terrorist Fighters.
